Influenza is a viral infection of your nose, throat and sometimes your lungs. It spreads quickly from person to person through touch and the air. Most people who get the flu recover within a week or two, but it can cause serious illness in some people.The 2021 Influenza Immunisation Programme starts on 14th April 2021, for people aged 65 and over and for those who are considered more likely to get serious complication with the flu. These special groups are:
- Pregnant women (any trimester)
- People aged 65 years and older
- People of any age with chronic conditions such as COPD, diabetes, lung or heart conditions, and some other illnesses
The programme for people aged under 65 will start on 17th May 2021.
Please note that a two-week gap is recommended between influenza vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.
