General Information

Neocate Syneo is a Food for Special Medical Purposes: a nutritionally complete, amino acid-based powdered infant formula for the dietary management of infants from birth with cows' milk allergy, multiple food protein allergy, eosinophilic oesophagitis and other conditions where an amino acid-based formula is recommended. It must be used under medical supervision, after considering all feeding options including breastfeeding. Available on prescription.

The current formulation (from October 2024) also contains the human milk oligosaccharide 2'-fucosyllactose (2'-FL). Per 100ml at the standard 14.4% w/v concentration: energy 286kJ (68kcal), protein equivalent 1.9g, fat 3.4g, fibre (scFOS/lcFOS) 0.64g, 2'-FL 0.02g. Sold as a single 400g can.

Ingredients

Dried glucose syrup, refined vegetable oils (medium chain triglycerides (coconut and/or palm oil), high oleic sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil), dietary fibres (oligofructose (scFOS), inulin (lcFOS)), 2'-fucosyllactose (lactose), free L-amino acids, emulsifier (E472c), minerals, oil from Crypthecodinium cohnii (DHA), oil from Mortierella alpina (ARA), choline, inositol, vitamins, antioxidants (sunflower lecithin, ascorbyl palmitate), taurine, Bifidobacterium breve M-16V, L-carnitine, nucleotides, trace elements. Allergens: milk protein free; contains a very low level of highly purified lactose from 2'-FL (0.075mg per 100kcal), declared under food labelling rules.

Directions

As directed by a healthcare professional. The quantity of feed should be determined by a clinician or dietitian only and depends on the age, body weight and medical condition of the infant. The feeding table on the can is a guide only.

  • Each level scoop (approx. 4.8g) of Neocate Syneo is added to 30ml of water to give the standard concentration (14.4% w/v).
  • Neocate Syneo has different mixing instructions to other formulas. Follow the preparation instructions on the can exactly, and use only the scoop provided.
  • Prepare each feed immediately before feeding. Discard any unfinished feed.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place (not in a refrigerator). Once opened, reseal and use within the time stated on the can. Use by the date on the base of the can.

Warnings

  • Food for Special Medical Purposes. Not suitable for general use.
  • For enteral use only, not for parenteral use. Not for use in post-pyloric tube feeding.
  • Contains Bifidobacterium breve M-16V: not suitable for premature infants or infants who are immunocompromised.
  • Not recommended for infants with a central venous catheter or short bowel syndrome without full consideration of the risks and benefits by a healthcare professional and careful monitoring.
  • Powdered infant formula is not sterile. Prepare immediately before feeding.
  • Do not boil the formula and do not use a microwave to prepare or warm it (the probiotic is heat sensitive).
  • Infants over 6 months should be offered foods as well as formula.
  • Breast milk is best for babies. Before deciding to use an infant formula, consult your healthcare professional.
